Chennai, Dec. 27
AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa today won yet another legal battle ahead of her plans to contest a by-election to the Tamil Nadu Assembly, when a special court acquitted her of all charges in the Rs 6.50 crore coal import scam.
``The charges that they (Jayalalithaa and nine others) had gained pecuniary advantage through illegal or corrupt means had not been proved beyond reasonable doubt,'' the Judge S S P Darwesh said in his order.
The acquittal comes close on the heels of her being discharged in the Tansi-related cases and the Pleasant Stay hotel case early this month.
Shortly after the verdict, Jayalalithaa told reporters that she had once gain proved her innocence and that all the cases were ``foisted'' on her by the Karunanidhi government.
Asked whether she would contest the coming Assembly elections in Andipatti, she said ``I'll tell you about it later.''
She was disqualified from contesting the general elections in May on the grounds she was convicted in corruption cases. Later, she was unseated from the Chief Minister's post by the Supreme Court.
